Way Forward For Penampang

Leaders from Warisan  Penampang Division met the Penampang Municipality Council (PMC) President, Francis Chong and the municipal’s Secretary, Robert Malangkig recently to discuss several issues that affect the Penampang folks.

Warisan was led by the Division’s Chief, Jeffrey Leiking, Pritchard Gumbaris (Political Secretary to the Deputy President), Division Wanita Chief, Junny Simol and the party’s several Chinese leaders of Yong Tain Vui, Sam Koh and Theresa Chong.

During the meeting, I have brought up the road conditions at Kepayan and Moyog and handed over my report to the President for the Municipal to go through.

Potholes, that are more prevalent at roundabouts, exist at almost every road in Penampang such as Jalan Kibabaig, Donggongon Township, Jalan Donggongon – Kivatu, Jalan Bundusan, Jalan Lintas – Airport and Jalan Beverly.

Road users and local folks are utterly disappointed and dissatisfied with these potholes and some (potholes) are left unrepaired for months.

Most vehicle owners know that potholes causes vehicle parts such as the power steering and suspension systems to deteriorate faster resulting unexpected breakdown and in worst case, fatal accident due to malfunctioning brakes or power steering.

With State’s inflation being out of control and price of goods and services rocketing, vehicle owners are now very frustrated when they have to continue using their savings to service their vehicles due to a problem that actually can be avoided.

It is rather unfortunate that representatives of GRS and PH who sits in the Monthly Full Council Meeting and Majlis Tindakan Daerah Penampang remained nonchalant on this matter hence we have proposed that road potholes be made as one of the Municipal’s major agenda to complement its elevation status.

We have also highlighted to the President the faded road demarcation lines that causes confusion to outstation drivers, absence of street lights that contributed to several accidents at U-Turns along Jalan Pintas and drainage system that causes road at Kg Kolopis to be inundated with water whenever it rain heavily.

On matters involving daily management of the district, we have suggested that MPP set up its complaint counter or WhatsApp (similar to the ones adopted by SESB) to make it easier for Penampang folks to forward their complaints.

We have suggested MPP to organize a joint townhall sessions with JKR, SESB and JANs to be held at Moyog and Kapayan and attended by JPKKs, KKs and villagers on matters relating to infrastructures and utilities.

Lastly, we have also suggested that MPP erect signages depicting the details and contact numbers of contractors appointed to maintain grass/drainages so that village leaders will know who are those entrusted to manage their respective areas.
