KOTA KINABALU : Parti Warisan Penampang Division today urged Penampang Municipal Council (PMC) to attend to the repeated floodings at Taman Oriental, Penampang that is said to be caused by unmaintained drainage system.

Pritchard Gumbaris who is the Political Secretary for the Deputy President of Warisan, Darell Leiking said residents at the housing informed him that they have forwarded numerous complaints to PMC but up todate, nothing had been done to solve the problem.
“On January 14, I have visited the housing together with Warisan Penampang Women Chief Junny Simol to assess the situation and we did noticed the presence of debris, soils and collapse drainage wall in the monsoon drain that prevented smooth flow of water.
One of the resident, Mr. Gary Lim told us that that the January 13 flooding was so bad and water entered into his house and imagine the suffering he had to endure when barely a week later, his house was flooded again on January 21.
Gary and other residents affected by the floodings were very lucky that they did not contracted any water-borne disease coming from the filthy drain when water overflowed and entered their houses but if they did and hospitalized, then who is going to be responsible for this trouble?” he stated in a statement today.
“Hence I hope PMC and its President will empathize with the sufferings borne by Gary and other residents and to quickly attend to this matter because it is simply unfair to expect them to pay house assessment rate on time in return of a very bad service,” he added.
Pritchard also lambasted the GRS and DAP district leaders appointed as UPPMs, councillors in PMC and also as members of the Penampang District Action Committee whom he said failed miserably to manage the district properly.
“Imagine the visible and invisible degradation process on building structures worth tens of thousands ringgit including damage on furnitures and electrical appliances suffered by residents here due to repeated floodings.

These could have been avoided in the first place if the UPPMs and councillors from GRS and DAP have done their part to ensure the drainage not only in Taman Oriental but other housings in Kapayan as well are clear from blockages.
Some of the residents are now wondering why GRS and DAP are so eager to remain in power or even to contest in the State Election when in the first place, they do not even know how to manage a small constituency like Kapayan despite being the Government of the Day.
The nonchalant attitude by GRS and DAP towards the continuous sufferings of the Kapayan folks remind me of the Penampang Sport Complex that is being left in bad condition for 2 years now and I take it that GRS and DAP is very confident that the people will vote them back no matter how incompetent they are in managing the district. If they can’t even manage or monitor a simple task such as drainage scheduled maintenance, then what more of potholes and water supply to Kapayan?” he concluded.
