The management corporation for Country Heights Apartment Penampang, Eurotra Sdn Bhd had issued a memo on the rationing/cutting of water supply from 25th January to 7th February 2025.
The 13 hours rationing is scheduled daily from 11pm to 4am and 9am to 5pm.
Among the reason given by the management was the inconsistent water supply compounded by low pressure of water supply provided by Jabatan Air Negeri Sabah (JANS) that will affect the apartment’s water tank storage capability.
Upon receiving some calls from residents of the apartment today, I went there for finer details from the management company.
I was made to know that water supply to every unit in the apartment is dependent on the pressure – since the pressure is so low (below 1 psi) at night, it takes time for to fill up the tanks.
Ideally the pressure should be more than 2.2 psi so that the residents’ water tanks will fill much faster.
Hence I urge JANS to ensure water pressure is stabilized quickly and to find solution to the problems that causes the rationing in the first place.
The State’s Minister of Tourism, Christina Liew also recently demanded that water supply is sufficient for the Chinese New Year celebration but the memo is telling us that somehow, nobody took her seriously.
This is more so when water supply disruption have caused much problem to people at Penampang, Luyang, Putatan, Kota Kinabalu and Inanam.
It not only disrupted daily routine of the local community but also businesses with high water consumption such as restaurants so water supply should be consistent not only during festive seasons but through-out the year.
On behalf of Unit Pemantau Daerah (UPD), Parti Warisan Bahagian Penampang, I praise the management of the Country Heights Apartment for its initiative to procure its own water tanker when in the first place, this is what the local authorities and GRS/PH district leaders should have done.
