Not One Voice: Sabah’s Chinese Business Community Rejects Partisan Labels, Stands Firm on Neutrality

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – The recent public endorsement by Datuk Dexter Lau, President of the Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah, for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has stirred intense discussion among Sabah’s Chinese business community.

While we respect Datuk Dexter Lau’s personal views and his recognition of achievements such as Sabah’s revenue growth, rising foreign investments, and youth leadership initiatives, we stress firmly: he does not speak for all Chinese businessmen in Sabah.

For generations, our strength has come from political neutrality. Neutrality is not silence—it is strategy. It has allowed us to work constructively with every government, safeguard unity within our community, and focus on what matters most: sustainable growth and the welfare of all Sabahans.

We caution against aligning our community with any single political faction. To do so risks division, alienation, and the erosion of our collective voice. True progress depends not on partisanship, but on policies that are fair, transparent, and inclusive.

The Chinese business community will continue to stand for fairness, inclusivity, and equal opportunity. Beyond politics, we are building bridges with civil society, global partners, and multiple industries to strengthen Sabah’s economy and future.

This moment is a reminder of a timeless truth: our power lies in unity, integrity, and neutrality. We will work with any government that puts Sabah’s prosperity above partisan gain.

Together, united and non-partisan, we can build a Sabah where every voice is heard, and every community thrives.
