Madam Ng, a resident of Taman Delima Kepayan, expressed her frustration with the Water Department for leaving the pavement in front of her house in a damaged state after repairing a leaking pipe.
“The Water Department came to fix the pipe sometime in December last year and left the pavement in a disgusting condition. We have made several complaints, even to DAP, but no action has been taken until today,” stressed Madam Ng.
Pritchard Gumbaris, the Political Secretary to Warisan Deputy President Darell Leiking and Chairman of the Warisan Kg Kepayan Branch, together with Theresa Chong, the Warisan Kepayan Women’s Task Force leader, visited the area after receiving the complaints.
According to Theresa, she has already filed an official report with the Penampang Municipal Council (PMC) after discovering that no prior report had been submitted by UPPM Kepayan.
“I’ve raised the issue with the PMC President, Mr. Francis Chong, and the relevant department will be instructed to rectify the matter as soon as possible,” said Pritchard.
When asked to comment on the recent statement by PPM Kepayan (under DAP), Cyril Liew, expressing his dissatisfaction with DAP Sabah’s silence regarding allegations of corruption within the state government and several GRS assemblymen, Pritchard responded, “Cyril Liew has every right to express his concerns publicly, and I believe his statement reflects the strong sentiment within DAP Kepayan, led by Janie Lasimbang.”
“I understand Cyril Liew’s concerns, especially when the public themselves have voiced similar frustrations. We’ve often heard these sentiments during our engagements on the ground — many people feel that DAP is no longer the party they once supported. They seem to remain silent on corruption allegations,” added Pritchard.
He further noted that the public is also worried about the deterioration of basic infrastructure under the SMJ government over the past few years, and yet DAP has remained quiet and stopped being vocal as they once were. “So I do understand the frustration Cyril Liew is feeling,” he said.
Amidst growing public frustration, Pritchard said Cyril Liew’s statement shows that DAP Kepayan is at a breaking point, losing support day by day, especially as DAP Sabah, through leaders like Ginger Phoong and Janie Lasimbang, continues to back the GRS-led government and remains silent on corruption issues.
Pritchard declined to comment further when asked if Cyril Liew’s statement had been vetted by DAP Sabah’s top leadership. “Let them handle their internal matters. It has nothing to do with us. At Warisan Kepayan, we will continue serving the community despite being in the opposition. We are more than ready to step up and make Kepayan great” he concluded.
