PENAMPANG : Parti Warisan had called upon the Penampang Municipal Council to ensure drainage system at Taman Sahabat at Yue Min, Penampang is free from silt and clogging to prevent flash flood.

The party’s DUN Kepayan Chief Coordinator, Sam Koh Chik Ping said he believe that the local authority will be able to accomodate such request now that Penampang District Council have been elevated to become a municipal.
“Residents of Taman Sahabat have informed us of the clogged drainage system and stagnation that causes anxiety to them of possible flash flood whenever it rain heavily.
And upon our inspection, true enough, the entire drainage system at Taman Sahabat does seem to be facing stagnantion and we also know that this type of condition is the preferred breeding place for Aedes mosquito.
Parasites and other waterborne organisms can also seep into houses when flooding occur so it is the responsibility of the local authority to clean the drainage system here,” he stated in a statement today after his team visited the area today (Sunday).

Among those involved in the inspection at Taman Sahabat on Sunday by Parti Warisan were the parti’s Vice President, Terrence Siambun, Division Chief, Jeffrey Leiking, Wanita Division Chief, Junny Simol, Wirawati Chief, Elsie Gidal and Political Assistant to Datuk Darell Leiking, TV Yong.
Sam also highlighted the unkept condition of the basketball court at Taman Sahabat filed with rubbish and overgrown grass.

“I understand that the basketball court is owned by the housing committee and perhaps this is the reason why the local authorities is unable to do periodical grass cutting and maintenance of the same.
So while I congratulate the former District Officer, Francis Chong for his appointment as the first President of Penampang Municipal, I also seek for his assistance and as a matter of courtesy to our party for the periodical maintenance of the basketball court to enable the young and elderly in this housing to do their daily exercises here,” he concluded.
